Film Openings

Hello I'm back again! after talking with my group on deeper level we wanted to change the theme to drama because our ideas for the romance genre were pretty trash, so our idea for the drama is this teenager that is sneaking back home after after a party and while hes sneaking in his mom catches him and while getting scolded its going to cut back and show 8 hours before or something like that. after that its going to be a scene were the teenager either is telling his parents that he will be back home before their required time or he will be grounded so he cant leave at all. and yeah that's pretty much it for now but I'll see what other ideas we explore.

Since I chose drama I'm going to do a little deep dive into 3 drama film openings especially on Research/Analysis/Discussion.

My first film opening I researched was this French made film called Athena.

As soon as the film starts there's immediate conflict, which creates a serious and adrenaline tone to the piece from the get go. Also this scene has some aspects that make it feel more real like the huge crowds that there is.Moreover this opening had long continuous camera movement and all of the opening was a single take were the camera doesn't cut. And theres many sounds making the it feel like there's chaos. After viewing this opening it made me feel like it had just a little similarity to my groups idea were you just enter into a scene not knowing context or anything and just being thrown in.

For my second film researched I did "the Wonder"

The Wonder is a film were a nurse is sent to a young girl who claims to survive without eating and she discovers many things. This opening uses Slow planning to give of a calm and composed look. and Before the story begins it shows a set which shows how the film revolves around storytelling and belief. This film was very peculiar and I think this drama is in hugely different world than the Athena film but I don't really know if I want to draw inspiration from any of this films characteristics.

The Anatomy Of a Fall is my third and final opening research film. Like the Athena film this opening starts without explaining anything and creating tension and uncertainess the scene starts with a calm interview which is violently interrupted by loud music from inside the house. there no dramatic lighting and uses many medium shots. this film openings is going to be useful to take inspiration from because the start with calmness can help my group and I when creating the scene when the teenager talks with his parents before eventually sneaking out so it can create a false sense of calmness.

Comedy genre View

WELCOME Back!! At first I wanted to do a comedy opening but then I realized it would be very hard to pull off the dialogue but this is some of the research I grounded up. While the target audience for comedy is broad it usually is for teenagers and young adults or dads that like dad jokes. some genre conventions with content usually are huge misunderstandings, awkward moments and have relatable characters that could act like ordinary people. Additionally genre conventions of techniques are close ups used for punchlines and bright lighting to emphasize the usually happy film. For the narrative image they use many bright colors and for the marketing they use trailers and social media to show highlight jokes or funny scenes and having their main actors promote it in other places like their own individual social media and maybe even interviews.

two films that represent the genre and inspired me to research the comedy genre are "Grow ups" and "Thats My Boy"

Racing Sports Genre View

Welcome Back! I wanted to talk about how While diving into research for this project I was really excited to look into the Racing Sports genre since sports is one of my favorite genres. The typical audience for this genre is teenagers and young adults, especially motorsport fans and car lovers. Genre conventions of this genre are like scenes were there's high speed racing or were the character is training to become better. A film that inspired me to research this genre is Gran turismo since I was just looking for a something to watch on a random day so I watched it and I loved it.

Genre conventions with techniques is that they usually use a close up of the drivers eyes in the helmet a lot to show the intensity of the race. Additionally some similar films use shot-reverse-shot added on with the close up I mentioned earlier. The narrative image emphasizes speed, rivalry, and completion while the marketing uses trailers, posters and social media, usually using engine sounds and fast cut editing in their video marketing.
The F1 movie was another film that made me want to research this genre since I really enjoyed  watching it.

Mario's initial portfolio experience

Heyyyy cambridge people my class just started our portfolio preparations. initially i wanted to do the film opening project alone but after some consideration I decided to work with Luca and vale. We were all trying to decide the genre for our opening at the end of class and we decided between two options, on of them they thought of was a romance opening but i proposed a sports one focusing on a retired driver and him reminiscing about his old days of f1 driving but Luca and vale wanted to do the romance one really badly so we chose it.
